Coimbatore: MLA N.Karthik urges to resolve the pest infestation that spreads to residential areas from FCI godown in Coimbatore
Coimbatore: MLA N. Karthik has urged to resolve the pest problem in Murugan Nagar and Sriram Nagar areas which are most affected by the pests coming from the Food Corporation of India godown in Peelamedu Gandhimanagar area.
Insects are produced from grains stored in this warehouse for many years. Insects coming out of the warehouse enter the houses in the neighborhood, causing great inconvenience to the public. As a result, the public in Murugan Nagar and Sriram Nagar areas near the godown are most affected.
People say that pests can cause a variety of health problems, from children to adults and they are also suffering from sleeplessness at night. They added that the pests also pollute drinking water in the area and they spoil goods at grocery stores and bakeries. The insects also end up in food and make it inedible. Insects that come out of the godown affect the environment and health.
He urged that safety measures should be taken to prevent the pests. He said, "I met the officials at the godown several times in this regard, but they have not taken any action so far. I therefore request the District Collector to take appropriate action to control the pests in the above areas on a permanent basis."
