Coimbatore: Minister SP Velumani inaugurated the enrolment of students for 2020-2021 at the newly begun Women's Government Arts college at Puliyakulam.
TN CM had said in the Assembly that 7 new Government Arts Colleges would be set up under Rule 110. Accordingly, they have been started at Ariyalur, Karur, Villupuram, Virudhunagar, Nagapattinam, Ranipet and Coimbatore. The Government Women 'Arts and Science College has been set up on the campus of the Government Girls' High School in the Puliyakulam area of Coimbatore.
The inauguration ceremony of the college for the enrollment for the academic year 2020-2021 was held today.
Minister SP Velumani attended the function and handed over the application forms to the students.
Earlier Minister SP Velumani addressed the gathering and said that the Government of Tamil Nadu has undertaken various projects for Coimbatore district. The government is implementing various projects in Coimbatore district such as airport expansion, metro rail, flyovers at various places, 5 government colleges, Athikadavu Avinashi project, Third Pillur joint drinking water project.
He said that with the project there will be no drinking water problem for 50 years. He said the completion of the Coimbatore airport expansion would create jobs for one lakh people.
In the first phase, five courses had been started in the college. He said additional courses will be started in the future depending on the number of students enrolled. Minister SP Velumani said that courses that require a tuition fee of Rs. 10000 can be pursued at the Government Arts College for Rs. 2000.
