Coimbatore: Tirupur cop asks for caste details when imposing fine for not wearing face masks: District Collector assures investigation
Coimbatore: Tirupur District Collector has assured that an investigation will be made into the incident where a cop asked for caste details from a person while imposing fine on him for not wearing a face mask.
In order to prevent the spread of coronavirus throughout Tirupur district, the district administration has ordered that those who venture out should wear face masks. Fines are levied on those who do not wear face masks.
Under the circumstances, a man who did not wear a face mask in the Tirupur-Perumanallur four-lane area was stopped by Perumanallur Armed Police cop Kasirajan. It is alleged that Kasirajan asked for caste details from the person while collecting information for imposing fine.
An argument ensued and the person who was stopped by the cop was enraged and said, "It is not wrong to impose fine, but to enquire about my caste is inappropriate." The video of this scuffle is doing rounds on social media.
Generally when wrongdoers are enquired, it is customary to collect information including their caste details, but a cop asking for the same from one who did not wear a face mask has been criticized by many. Following this, the Armed Forces Constable Kasirajan, who was on duty at the Perumanallur Police Station, has been transferred back to the Armed Forces on the orders of District SP Disha Mittal.
