On the occasion of Thanthai Periyar Memorial Day on October 2, three policemen from Cuddalore paid homage to this statue with garlands. The three of them have been transferred and it was said they have been transferred only because they paid homage to Periyar.

Following this, a protest was held today on behalf of Thanthai Periyar Dravidar Kazhagam in front of the Pollachi BSNL office condemning the transfers. Many executives from the DMK, Congress, Viduthalai Siruthaigal, MDMK and the Communist Party took part in the protest, which was led by Manokaran, state publications secretary of the TPDK.
Protesters chanted slogans condemning higher officials who had transferred the police and the Tamil Nadu government.
