Due to the increase in water supply in the area, various water bodies including Ukkadam Periyakulam, Valankulam, Narasampathy, Perur Kulam and Kurichi Kulam have been filled. In addition, the water level of the Siruvani Dam, the main source of drinking water in Coimbatore, rose to over 40 feet.
According to Ramanathan, head of the Climate Research Centre at TNAU, Coimbatore received 22.5 mm of rainfall in June, 83.5 mm in July, 49.5 mm in August and 140.5 mm in September.
He said, "A total of 296 mm of rainfall was recorded. The southwest monsoon is over. The Northeast monsoon is likely to start in the 3rd week of this month and is expected to be the usual average."
