Coimbatore: Corporation Commissioner and Special Officer P. Kumaravel Pandian inspected the reconstruction and renovation work of Kurichi Kulam at a cost of Rs. 52 crore under the SmartCity project in Coimbatore.

The Commissioner inspected the work at Ukkadam Periyakulam and Kurichi Kulam today.

Water bodies in Coimbatore are being rehabilitated under the SmartCity project. Of these, the work at Kurichi Kulam in the South Zone that is 5.1 km in circumference is being carried out at an estimated cost of Rs. 52 crore. Work is underway to strengthen the bunds around the pond along with installation of natural water treatment plant (bed land), and construction bicycle paths, parks, snack stalls, floating sidewalks, and playgrounds with recreational features/ The Corporation Commissioner inspected the work being done to improve the waterway and to dispose water hyacinth in the pond.
Following that, work to construct parks and sidewalks strengthen the banks of the lake, and construct a sewage treatment plant at Ukkadam Periyakulam Phase-1 was inspected by the Corporation Commissioner who instructed the concerned officials to complete the work expeditiously.
City Engineer A. Lakshmanan, Southern Zone Assistant Commissioner T. R. Ravi, Chief Engineer Gnanavel and Assistant Engineers were present during the inspection.
