Farmers in Pollachi and Anaimalai Taluk areas of Coimbatore district had demanded the Tamil Nadu government to open water for new ayacut irrigation from the Aliyar Dam.
Accordingly, the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu Edappadi Palaniswami ordered release of water for new ayacut irrigation from the Aliyar Dam. According to the order, water was released today.
Coimbatore District Collector Rajamani, Valparai MLA Kasturi Vasu and farmers were present and sprinkled flowers to welcome the water released from the dam.

The District Collector said that 22,116 acres will be irrigated with water released from the Aliyar Dam through the Pollachi, Sethumadai and Vettaikaranputhur canals and that 2,548 million cubic feet of water be released from the dam at intervals of 135 days for 80 days and that this water be used wisely by the farmers.
