Amid strong protests across the country over the rape and murder of a girl in the village of Hathras in Uttar Pradesh, Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi who went to Uttar Pradesh to offer condolences to the family of the victim were insulted by the police.
Under the circumstances, a satyagraha-type protest was held today on behalf of the Congress party against in front of the Tirupur Corporation office demanding the resignation of the Bharatiya Janata Party of Uttar Pradesh for the rape and murder of the dalit girl.
Earlier, Deepika Appukutty, daughter of former mayor of Tirupur, came out of AMMK and joined the Congress party led by District Congress Chief Krishnan.
She was given an ID card of the Congress party.
