Coimbatore: Tamil Nadu on Tuesday posted 5,017 fresh cases of COVID-19 and 71 related fatalities, taking the total number of infections to 6,30,408 and the State toll to 9,917 according to the State Health Department media bulletin.

The day also witnessed 5,548 patients getting discharged after recovery from various hospitals across the State.
As of October 6, cumulatively 6,30,408 COVID-19 positive cases have been confirmed in the state, which include 9,917 deaths and 5,75,212 discharges, the Health Department said in its bulletin.
Of the new cases reported today, State Capital Chennai reported 1,306.
Among the districts where a higher number of cases was reported, Coimbatore accounted for 434, Salem 326, Chengalpattu 283, Thiruvallur 263 and Thanjavur 224.
Tirupur logged a single-day spike of 152 cases and the Nilgiris 87.
According to the bulletin, the number of active cases stood at 45,279.
A total of 78,63,864 samples have been tested till date of which 81,128 were tested over the last 24 hours alone.
