He has been doing rice export and import business in Trichy. In 2018, Ashraf and Saleem from Coimbatore approached Mohammad Tamimun Ansari through a website and told him that they wanted 21 tons of rice for the rice mandi they are running in the Podanur area of Coimbatore.
They have also sent their company's GST number. Relying on this, Tamimun Ansari has sent 21 tonnes of rice bundles worth about Rs. 9 lakh 97 thousand without receiving any advance payment. It is alleged that Ashraf and Saleem cheated by getting the rice and not paying regularly. In this situation, he met Ashraf again in the last few months and asked for money, but he refused to pay and reportedly made death threats.
Following this, Mohammad Tamimun Ansari lodged a complaint with the Podanur Crime Branch Police. Police have registered a case on his complaint and are investigating. The police investigation revealed that Ashraf had already been involved in several scams and had gone to jail. Police arrested Ashraf, who was in hiding, and produced him in court and remanded him into custody. They are now on the lookout for his partner in crime, Salim.
