Coimbatore: As the influx of tourists has started to increase in Valparai, COVID-19 infections are on the rise. The coronavirus infections have increased due to tourist arrivals in Valparai as many of them do not wear masks and adhere to social distancing.
As a result, the government hospital in Valparai has been closed for the past three days. Thus patients in the Valparai area are subjected to more inconvenience.
The Valparai Primary Health Center has also been closed.
Thus patients and pregnant women find it very difficult to get their check-ups. They are forced to travel three hours to the Pollachi Government Hospital. It is the opinion of social activists and plantation workers that this can be rectified if tourists are restricted.
It is requested that officials of the health and municipal revenue departments should restrict the arrival of tourists to the Valparai. More than 50 people have been receiving treatment for the infection over the past month since the resumption of public transport has increased the number of tourists.
A petition has been submitted to the District Collector by all organizations. The Valparai public has demanded that higher authorities should take appropriate action to control the infections.
