Coimbatore: Tamil Nadu on Monday posted 5,395 fresh cases of COVID-19 and 62 related fatalities, taking the total number of infections to 6,25,391 and the State toll to 9,846, according to the State Health Department media bulletin.

The day also witnessed 5,572 patients getting discharged after recovery from various hospitals across the State.
As of October 5, cumulatively 6,25,391 COVID-19 positive cases have been confirmed in the state, which include 9,846 deaths and 5,69,664 discharges, the Health Department said in its bulletin.
Of the new cases reported today, State Capital Chennai reported 1,367.
Among the districts where a higher number of cases was reported, Coimbatore accounted for 468, Salem 419, Chengalpattu 343, and Thanjavur 251.
Tirupur logged a single-day spike of 132 cases and the Nilgiris a new record of 169.
According to the bulletin, the number of active cases stood at 45,881.
A total of 77,82,736 samples have been tested till date of which 82,725 were tested over the last 24 hours alone.
