The brazen brutality inflicted on a Dalit woman in a Hathras in Uttar Pradesh (UP) who died of injuries has shook the conscience of the entire nation. And, equally reprehensible was the way media were prevented from covering the developments of the incident including the reason for hurried cremation of the deceased"s body without their families consent. The media were even prevented from talking to the family of the victim.

The act by the UP government led by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has irked the Journalists across the nation who have called it a brazen act of curbing press freedom.
Registering their condemnation against the incident and attack on press freedom, more than 50 journalists working in various media outlets in Coimbatore City held a demonstration in front of District Collector's Office here on Monday.
