Coimbatore: Tamil Nadu on Sunday posted 5,489 fresh cases of COVID-19 and 66 related fatalities, taking the total number of infections to 6,19,996 and the State toll to 9,784, according to the State Health Department media bulletin.

The day also witnessed 5,558 patients getting discharged after recovery from various hospitals across the State.
As of October 4, cumulatively 6,19,996 COVID-19 positive cases have been confirmed in the state, which include 9,784 deaths and 5,64,092 discharges, the Health Department said in its bulletin.
Of the new cases reported today, State Capital Chennai reported 1348.
Among the districts where a higher number of cases was reported, Coimbatore accounted for 474, Salem 357, Chengalpattu 381, and Thanjavur 242.
Tirupur logged a single-day spike of 147 cases and the Nilgiris 122.
According to the bulletin, the number of active cases stood at 46,120.
A total of 77,00,011 samples have been tested till date of which 86,012 were tested over the last 24 hours alone.
