Coimbatore: Coimbatore Corporation Commissioner reviews Solid Waste Management Project at Vellalore Landfill in person
Coimbatore: Corporation Commissioner and Special Officer Kumaravel Pandian inspection reviewed the Solid Waste Management Project at Vellalore Landfill in person.
He reviewed how compostable and non-compostable waste is segregated and processed.
Garbage collected from all the zones in Coimbatore Corporation is taken to the Segregation Centre at Vellalore dump yard Depot and sorted by machines into compostable and non-compostable waste. The degradable waste is then used for manufacturing biofertilizer.

Corporation Commissioner inspected this work and directed the concerned officials to expedite segregation.

In addition, the Commissioner personally inspected the work being done on the bio-mining machine for sorting the waste and said that additional machines should be installed and the work of setting up the electrical connection and power house should be started expeditiously. In addition, he also said that the micro compost centers should be established in a large number of places to reduce the amount of garbage brought to the landfill. He also directed the officials to plant a large number of saplings at all places in the landfill premises.

City Engineer A. Lakshmanan, Assistant Engineers Ravikannan and Shahamathala, and Corporation officials were present during the inspection.
