Coimbatore: Members of All India Democratic Women's Association protest against alleged abuse of borrowers by microfinance companies
Coimbatore: All India Democratic Women's Association protested against alleged abuse of borrowers by microfinance companies. The protest was held in front of the South taluk office.

Due to the COVID-19 situation, they demanded that time should be given to repay the loans taken from microfinance institutions. A complaint was lodged with the Coimbatore District Collector on behalf of the All India Democratic Women's Association that the women in the house should not be compelled to pay the money immediately. Following this, the District Collector had instructed all Tahsildars to take action in this regard, but it is alleged that the members of the micro finance company in the areas under the jurisdiction of the Coimbatore South Taluk office are still abusing the borrowers. Officials on duty are said to have spoken indifferently when the members of All India Democratic Women's Association came to the South Taluk office today to lodge a complaint.

Following this, they staged a sit-in protest at the Coimbatore South Taluk office premises. At that time, they said the atrocities by the microfinances keep increasing day by day and they accused the financial institutions of disregarding the directions of the District Collector.

Those involved in the sit-in protest said they had not received a formal response to a complaint lodged with the Taluk office. Following this, the police and the revenue department held talks with them. The protest was called off following their assurances that appropriate action would be taken. Tense moments prevailed for some time due to the protest.
