Coimbatore: 83 companies fined for functioning on Gandhi Jayanti


Coimbatore: Coimbatore Labor Assistant Commissioner Venkatesh said that the owners of 83 companies in the Coimbatore district who did not declare Gandhi Jayanti a holiday and made their employees work day have been fined.

According to Chennai Labor Commissioner R. Nandagopal and Coimbatore Additional Labor Commissioner Senthilkumari, 131 companies including transport companies in Coimbatore, Pollachi and Mettupalayam areas were inspected to ascertain whether the workers were provided holiday on Gandhi Jayanti, a national holiday. Of these, the proprietors of 83 companies who did not provide workers a holiday yesterday were fined under the National and Festival Holidays Act.
