Tirupur: Public protested in front of a TASMAC outlet in Tirupur, causing a stir. Government opened a TASMAC outlet where private schools are operation and more than 500 families live in Murugampalayam, Tirupur. There is also a temple nearby. A TASMAC liquor store was set up in the area 20 days ago.

No action has been taken on a petition submitted by the MLAa and the Member of Parliament to the District Collector to remove the shop. More than 500 members of the public, including women, staged a sit-in protest today in the Murugampalayam area in condemnation of the non-action from the government.

The public abandoned the protest after the Tahsildar promised to vacate the shop within two days. Political parties including the DMK, the Communists, the Congress and the Hindu Munnani also lent their support to the protest.
