Coimbatore: Cases have been filed against 40 people , including panchayat leaders, near Pollachi for holding Gram Sabha Meetings despite ban.
The Tamil Nadu government has canceled the Grama sabha meetings scheduled to be held on October 2 in Tamil Nadu on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanthi due to the spread of coronavirus, but DMK leader MK Stalin called on the DMK-backed panchayat leaders to hold the meetings in their respective areas and pass a resolution calling for the repeal of the central government's Agriculture Bills.
A Grama Sabha meeting was held yesterday in Kullakapalayam panchayat near Pollachi under the chairmanship of panchayat council chairman Karthikeyan. Resolution seeking the repeal of the Agriculture Bill was passed. In addition, DMK State Weavers Wing led by Secretary Nagarajan met the farmers and distributed leaflets.
Pollachi police have registered a case against 10 people, including Kullakapalayam panchayat chairman Karthikeyan, State Weavers Wing secretary Nagarajan and panchayat members, for violating coronavirus control rules and gathering.
