Coimbatore: Karaikudi police have arrested two persons in connection with the murder of an elderly man in Coimbatore.
Coimbatore: Karaikudi police have arrested two persons in connection with the murder of an elderly man in Coimbatore. The police also confiscated the cash, jewellery and car looted from the house. A special police team has brought both accused to Coimbatore and are carrying out an investigation.
Vikram (27) is from Sakkottai near Karaikudi in Sivagangai district. He was jailed last February in connection with several murder and robbery cases. Through a connection with a friend in Coimbatore, he came to know that an elderly man, who lives alone near the Coimbatore Perks School, had a large amount of cash and jewelry.
Vikram, who was released from jail last week, along with his accomplice Karthik (name changed as the accused is a minor) watched the old man's house near the Singanallur Uzhavar Santhai in Coimbatore. After confirming that the old man was alone, the two entered the house at around midnight yesterday, hit Krishnasamy on the head with an iron bar, robbed him of his jewelry, cash and mobile and fled.
The looted items were taken to Karaikudi in a car owned by Krishnasamy. They stayed at a private hotel near Karaikudi and were drinking. As the car had a flat tire when they went out to buy liquor, they parked it on the road and went back to their hotel room with the liquor bottles.
The police saw the car parked on the roadside and investigated. On finding a hotel receipt, they went to the hotel and investigated Vikram and Karthik. On suspicion, they took the duo to the police station for investigation where it was revealed that they had killed the elderly man in Coimbatore. The Karaikudi South police then confiscated jewelry, cash and the car they used and informed the Coimbatore Singanallur police station. They were brought to Coimbatore by the special team for investigation.
