Coimbatore: Tamil Nadu on Friday logged 5,595 fresh cases of COVID-19 and 67 related fatalities, taking the total number of infections to 6,08,885 and the State toll to 9,653, according to the State Health Department media bulletin.

The day also witnessed 5,603 patients getting discharged after recovery from various hospitals across the State.
As of October 2, cumulatively 6,08,885 COVID-19 positive cases have been confirmed in the state, which include 9,653 deaths and 5,52,938 discharges, the Health Department said in its bulletin.
Of the new cases reported today, State Capital Chennai reported 1278. The metro is back to 1,000 plus cases for days in a row now.
Among the districts where a higher number of cases were reported, Coimbatore accounted for 495, Salem 355, Chengalpattu 396, Thiruvallur 255, and Thanjavur 226.
Tirupur logged a single-day spike of 149 cases and the Nilgiris 73.
According to the bulletin, the number of active cases stood at 46,294.
A total of 75,26,688 samples have been tested till date of which 84,991 were tested over the last 24 hours alone.
