Coimbatore: Minister SP Velumani pays floral tribute to Mahatma Gandhi on Gandhi Jayanti
Coimbatore: Minister SP Velumani paid floral tributes to Mahatma Gandhi on his 152nd birthday at the Khadi Store on Avinashi Road in Coimbatore.
He then launched the Gandhi Jayanti and Diwali special sale at the store.
He said Rs 179.20 lakh worth of Khadi and village products were sold at the Khadi store last year and the current sales target is Rs 257.60 lakh. He also said that on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti and Diwali, special discounts of 30 per cent on Khadi, silk, polyester and 20 per cent on wool products will be available at Khadi Angadi, Khadi stores operating in Coimbatore district, as well as Panchayat Union offices, Government Hospitals and Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation offices.
He said that 15 temporary Khadi outlets have been set up ahead of the sale. He also requested the public to buy more Khadi varieties and contribute in the interest of the development of rural poor women and encourage and support small entrepreneurs.
The event was attended by many including Coimbatore South Assembly Member Amman K. Arjunan, Coimbatore District Collector Rajamani and Khadi store employees.
