Tirupur: TNAU conducts Training programme on Integrated Weed Management to Scheduled Caste Farmers near Udumalaipettai
Tirupur: All India Coordinated Research Project on Weed Management, Department of Agronomy, TNAU has assigned a task of conducting training programme on “Integrated Weed Management” to scheduled caste farmers under Scheduled Caste Sub Plan (General) during 2020-21.
One day training programme on “Integrated Weed Management” was conducted at Valayapalayam, Udumalpet Taluk on 30.09.2020.

About 40 farmers participated and learnt about integrated weed management. The scheduled caste coconut farmers were trained with herbicidal weed management in the cropped and non cropped areas and also they were taught about different herbicides.

The programme was presided over by the Dr. C.R.Chinnamuthu, Professor and Head, Department of Agronomy who taught herbicidal weed management to the scheduled caste farmers and distributed the inputs. He highlighted herbicides recommended for different crops and their safe usage. In particular, he explained in detail about cyperus management.

He has clarified the farmer’s queries also. Mrs. Thirumagaljothi, Assistant Director of Agriculture and Dr.Kathiravan, Assistant Professor (Seed Tech), Pongalur and Dr.P.Murali Arthanari, Associate Professor and Principal Investigator, AICRP Weed Management explained the selection, time of application and method of application of herbicides to the field crops. Later, the ill-effects of parthenium and its management were also explained and demonstrated for cropped and non cropped areas.
