Coimbatore: Revenue Department has seized 12 tonnes of fertilizer in 270 bundles and seals godown from where subsidized fertiliser had been smuggled from Pollachi to Kerala.
In the Kunjipalayam area near Pollachi, Sub-Collector Vaithiyanathan received a tip-off that subsidized fertilizer bundles were hoarded for smuggling in a godown owned by Srinivasan. Following this, a team of officials led by him and the Tahsildar Thanigaivel, inspected the place.

When they inspected, they found that urea bundles were about to be to Kerala in a lorry.

Following this, the Revenue Department confiscated 12 tonnes of urea fertilizer from 270 bundles and handed it over to the Agriculture Department officials.
The lorry driver Karuppasamy was interrogated. It was found that he had smuggled the fertilizer bundles from the Somanur area to Kerala and had illegally hoarded the subsidized fertilizer bundles provided to farmers at the Agricultural Cooperative Banks. They had been smuggling the fertiliser to Kerala and selling them at a manifold price. Officers then confiscated the fertilizer bundles, the truck and sealed the godown.
The police are in search of the godown owner Srinivasan.
