Coimbatore: MP PR Natarajan has condemned the removal of quota in medical seats for children of ESI employees.
20 percent of the seats reserved for the medical education of the children of the workers in ESI hospitals have been stopped. Coimbatore MP PR Natarajan said that this was strongly condemnable. ESI Medical College Hospital worth Rs 520 crore was built on 32 acres of land in Singanallur, Coimbatore.
ESI hospitals are managed with the money received from the workers. This ensures the social security of the workers under the Labor Insurance Act.Accordingly, out of the total 100 medical seats, 65 seats will be filled by the State Government and 5 seats will be filled by the Central Government.
He said NEET has already shattered the dreams of many and now the quota for ESI Insured Persons has also been lifted for 2020-21 and the Public Health Department has been tasked to fill the seats. As a result, over 300 seats in over 35 ESI hospitals have been lifted.
He said colleges built with the money contributed by employees with a salary less than 20,000 will now not enroll their children for medical seats in the college. His statement reads, "I therefore urge the Central Government to withdraw this announcement and guarantee the old practice be followed. The State Government should insist on filling the seats reserved for the children of the ESI workers."
