Coimbatore: 'One Nation, One Ration Card’ scheme has come into effect starting from today in 32 districts including Coimbatore across Tamil Nadu.
The scheme will allow eligible beneficiaries to avail their entitled food grains under the National Food Security Act from any Fair Price Shops (FPS) across the country. However, this would be made available after biometric/Aadhaar authentication on ePoS (electronic Point of Sale) devices is integrated.
As announced, Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami today launched the One Nation; One Ration Card Scheme in Chennai. The eligible migratory NFSA beneficiaries, can now buy their entitled quota of foodgrains from any FPS of their choice anywhere in the country by using their same/existing ration card with biometric/Aadhaar based authentication on an electronic Point of Sale (ePoS) device installed at the FPSs.
And, family cardholders in TN can receive their rations from any FPS in any part of the State.
The cardholders in TN who could not ensure their identity through the biometric authentication, can scan their Smart Card and the Aadhaar card, using the OTP sent to the mobile number registered in the Aadhaar card.
For this purpose, a biometric fingerprint registration machine is being installed at all ration shops in Tamil Nadu, as an alternative to the Point of Sale machine. It is noteworthy that only family members can receive items through this procedure. However, elderly can receive the supplies through a person authorised by them.
According to a district government official, work is underway at all the ration shops in the southern taluk of Coimbatore district to register the fingerprint with the bio-metric machine.
There are more than 1400 ration shops in the district with 10 to 15 ration shops in each taluk. The scheme will soon be implemented across all the PDS shops after integration of biometric devices and with PoS (Point of Sale) devices used at all ration shops.
