Sivanandam from Vysial street in Kempatty Colony and his wife Dhanalakshmi (62) have a daughter named Jayanthi and 3 sons Ramesh,Prakash Bagu and Manikandan. While Sivanandam passed away a few years ago, all are married except Manikandan and hence Dhanalakshmi lived with him. Manikandan had left for work yesterday and Dhanalakshmi was alone at home last night.
Under the circumstances, unidentified persons entered the house and stabbed Dhanalakshmi in the neck with a knife as a result of which she bled to death on the spot. The unidentified persons looted 30 sovereigns of jewellery and two lakh rupees.
When Manikandan returned home after work, he was shocked to find his mother lying dead in a pool of blood. He cried in despair and when the neighbors came in hearing him cry, they were shocked to find the elderly woman dead. Big Bazaar police were informed about the incident. They rushed to the scene and carried out an investigation with the help of a sniffer dog.
Forensic experts were summoned to trace fingerprints. The police also investigated the neighbors. They sent the body for autopsy to the Coimbatore Government Hospital. The police are investigating in angles including if the elderly woman was killed for property or during a struggle with robbers or if there is any other reason behind the murder.
