Coimbatore: Tiger census has begun in Anaimalai Tiger Reserve under Pollachi Forest Range.
Coimbatore: Tiger census has begun in Anaimalai Tiger Reserve under Pollachi Forest Range. The Forest Department has announced that the first phase of the training will be held tomorrow at the training centre in Attakatti.

A press conference on the Tiger census in the forest area under the Anaimalai Tiger Reserve was held today at the Forest Department office at Meenkarai Road, Pollachi. Arokiaraj Xavier, Deputy Director, Anaimalai Tiger Reserve, addressed the press.
The fourth phase of the Tiger census in Pollachi, Valparai, Manampalli and Ulandhi forests under the Pollachi Division and Anaimalai Tiger Reserve will commence on 01.10.2020. Officials said a linear path rate of two sq. Km will be set and two cameras will be fitted. Accordingly, 245 straight lines will be set up in Pollachi division, cameras will be installed and the survey will be carried out.
The survey will be carried using photographic equipment so that the count can be accurately calculated. Forest officers will carry out field work continuously for 25 days during the survey. Instructions have been given to collect details of the count carried by the indirect survey work such as tiger footprints and scratches on trees. Training for the staff on the Tiger Survey is scheduled to be held on 01.10.2020 at 11.00 am at the Attakatti Wildlife Management Training Centre.
