Coimbatore: Vegetable gardening promoted at 1500 Anganwadi Centers in Coimbatore district to create nutrition awareness for children.
September is observed as Nutrition Month across the country. Various awareness programs are being conducted in this regard by the Integrated Child Development Project Department in Coimbatore District.
Meenakshi, Integrated Child Development Project Welfare Officer, said, “There are 1,690 Anganwadi Centers in Coimbatore district. So far, vegetable gardens have been set up in 1,500 Anganwadis. The gardens have plants like drumsticks, papaya and spinach.
She added that vegetable gardens are also being set up in panchayat areas in collaboration with the Department of Agriculture.She said this helps in raising awareness about nutrition among children. More than 1,500 staff are going door to door to study about child nutrition.
