Coimbatore: Street vendors in Coimbatore lament on how they are made to run pillar to post for availing COVID special loans.
There are more than 6,000 registered roadside vendors in the areas under the Coimbatore Corporation. There are about 12 thousand unregistered roadside vendors too.
The Central Government announced a special loan of Rs. 10000 to counter COVID, but the vendors say they are made to go back and forth.

Coimbatore District Roadside Vendor Merchants Union President Mani said the livelihoods of the vendors have been affected. They are reluctant to go to the banks and ask for a loan of Rs 10,000 announced by the central government. There are more than 6,000 registered roadside vendors in Coimbatore alone. Of these, only 975 are said to have been given the loans, so far.
He said appropriate action should be taken to make this loan available immediately to the rest of the members as their livelihoods have been hit hard.
