National Nutrition Month is being celebrated throughout September on behalf of the Coimbatore District Integrated Child Development Project. Since the 7th, various awareness campaigns have been carried out in 1,697 Anganwadi Centers in the district.
In this regard, on the closing day today, the District Collector's Office displayed traditional food items made with spinach, maize, millet and horsegram to create awareness among the people. During the event, the district collector told reporters that various measures are taken to control the spread of the coronavirus infection.
He said 11,662 fever camps have been conducted in Coimbatore district so far and 8,203 medical camps have been conducted. He added that 13,38,000 people have been tested in the district. He said 8,262 of those tested at the camps were diagnosed with the infection and the camps have been effective.
He said fever tests are performed on 16,000 to 18,000 people daily and 2,000 employees are going door to door to check for any ailments including colds. He hoped that the rate of infection will decrease in the coming days. He added that workers from North Indian are being allowed after 14 days of quarantine. He said a team of officials are monitoring the situation and inspections are carried out at factories.
He also said that 300 vehicles are involved in the awareness campaign from morning till night to raise awareness about coronavirus amongst people. He reiterated that COVID it could be controlled if the people cooperate by wearing face masks and adhering to social distancing.
