Coimbatore: Dravida Panpattu Kootiyakkam protests in Coimbatore against BJP for trying to disrupt the multifacetedness of the nation

Coimbatore: Dravida Panpattu Kootiyakkam protested in Coimbatore against BJP for trying to disrupt the multifacetedness of the nation.

Two days ago, the Central Government appointed a Indian Cultural Review committee. There were allegations that it is mostly made of upper class members like Brahmins and other castes like Dalits have no representation.

Condemning this, a protest was held in Coimbatore on behalf of the Dravidian Panpaattu Kootamaippu besieging the BSNL office near the Coimbatore District Collector's Office. Protesters chanted slogans condemning the central government and to suspend the newly appointed committee by the central government.

They alleged that the committee will be trying to enforce RSS beliefs and portray India as a country with one culture. They demanded the PM to immediately suspend the committee and warned of a series of protests if no action is taken. They further said that the Central Government has set up a committee of 16 people to study the origin and dimension of Indian culture that expands over a period of 12 thousand years. Analysts of languages recognized by the Central Government as classical including Tamil have not been included in the committee. Also women, multilingual, multi-ethnic, tribal, minority, and oppressed communities have been left out.

They tried to besiege the BSNL office after chanting slogans and marching from the Coimbatore District Superintendent of Police's office.

The traffic was disrupted for a while when the protestors were stopped by the police on security.
