Coimbatore: Tamil Nadu on Tuesday logged 5,546 fresh cases of COVID-19 and 70 related fatalities, taking the total number of infections to 5,91,943 and the State toll to 9,453, according to the State Health Department media bulletin.

The day also saw 5,501 patients getting discharged after recovery from various hospitals across the State.
As of September 29, cumulatively 5,91,943 COVID-19 positive cases have been confirmed in the state, which include 9,453 deaths and 5,36,209 discharges, the Health Department said in its bulletin.
Of the new cases reported today, State Capital Chennai reported 1,277. The metro is back to 1,000 plus cases for eight days in a row now.
Among the districts where a higher number of cases were reported, Coimbatore accounted for 572, Salem 343, Chengalpattu 330, and Thiruvallur 279.
Tirupur logged a single-day spike of 153 cases and the Nilgiris 149.
According to the bulletin, the number of active cases stood at 46,281.
A total of 72,67,122 samples have been tested till date of which 85,997 were tested over the last 24 hours alone.
