Coimbatore: Public near Pollachi has demanded that monkeys straying out forests into residential areas should be caught and released in the woods.
Lion-tailed macaques and toque macaques inhabit the foothills of the Western Ghats near Pollachi at areas including Aliyar and Sethumadai. Toque macaques (commonly seen monkeys) coexist with humans, especially in areas such as Aliyar and Monkey Falls.
Meanwhile, two monkeys, which strayed from the forest a few months ago, are wandering around the Pollachi town area. The general public and traders are suffering as they infiltrate shops and homes and carry away items including food.
The public has repeatedly demanded that the Forest Department should take action to catch these monkeys, but nothing has been done yet.

Meanwhile a group of monkeys have strayed into the residential areas in Aachipatti on the Pollachi-Coimbatore Road. The monkeys enter homes in search of food often and scare children.
The public has, therefore, demanded that forest officials take action to capture the monkeys and release them safely and into dense forests.
