Coimbatore: Tamil Nadu on Saturday logged 5,647 fresh cases of COVID-19 and 85 related fatalities, taking the total number of infections to 5,75,017 and the State toll to 9,233, according to the State Health Department media bulletin.

The day also saw 5,612 patients getting discharged after recovery from various hospitals across the State.
As of September 26, cumulatively 5,75,017 COVID-19 positive cases have been confirmed in the state, which include 9,233 deaths and 5,19,448 discharges, the Health Department said in its bulletin.
Of the new cases reported today, State Capital Chennai reported 1,187. The metro is back to 1,000 plus cases for three days in a row now.
Among the districts where a higher number of cases were reported, Coimbatore accounted for 656, Salem 296, Chengalpattu 259, Thiruvallur 235 and Cuddalore 212.
Tirupur logged a single-day spike of 188 cases and the Nilgiris logged a new high of 145 fresh cases in a day.
According to the bulletin, the number of active cases stood at 46,386.
A total of 70,04,558 samples have been tested till date of which a record 94,037 were tested over the last 24 hours alone.
