Coimbatore: Coimbatore goldsmith UMT Raja creates art candle in tribute of singer SPB
Coimbatore: Coimbatore Goldsmith UMT Raja (Unnal Mudiyum Thambi Raja) has painted a picture of legendary playback singer SPB, who passed away today, with oil paint on a candle and inscribed wordings in pay homage to the vocalist. SPB. Kuniyamuthur UMT Raja is a goldsmith who regularly creates works of art from time to time.
He has created artworks such as miniature world cup, MGR sculpture in commemoration of his centenary year, Karunanidhi, Jesus Christ on the tips of three pencils that looked like a church, and sculptures of leaders including Gandhiji, Tilak, Bhagat Singh, Swami Vivekananda, Nethaji, Bharathiyar, Nehru, Azad, Rajaram Mohan Roy, Zaheer Hussin, Abdul Kalam, and Radhakrishnan.
UMT Raja said, "SPB inspired a lot of youngsters with songs such as 'Unnal mudiyum thambi.' I was one among the many who were motivated by the song. I have taken his song 'Anjali, Anjali' and paid homage to him through this candle painting. Though he has left the world, his songs will reign forever. The candle symbolises that SPB will always shine as a light amid the people."
