Coimbatore City Police received several complaints that banned tobacco products are being sold in Coimbatore. Following this, a special police team was appointed to monitor the sale of such substances in the city.
The special team received a tip-off that gutkha products were hidden in a house at the SIHS Colony near Singanallur following which a raid was conducted and 750 kg of tobacco products in 18 bundles were seized.
Investigations revealed that they were planning to sell them in stores.
Police have arrested 3 men, Balaram, Mullaram and Mahindra, from Rajasthan and are investigating if such products are elsewhere in Coimbatore.
