Coimbatore: Woman from Pollachi set on fire by husband died after returning home upon completion of treatment.

Velusamy (81) hails from Ramanamudalipudur near Pollachi was married to Kaliammal (55) for 40 years. The couple has a son and a daughter.

It is said that money that was acquired through the sale of Velusamy's land was in possession of Kaliammal and she and Velusamy have been fighting often whenever he demanded money from her.

Under the circumstances, it is alleged that Velusamy doused Kaliammal with kerosene late night of August 28 and set her on fire. On hearing her scream, people in the locality alerted the Kottur Police who rushed to the spot and rescued Kaliammal and sent her to Pollachi GH for treatment.

Police registered a case against Velusamy in connection with the incident and remanded him on August 28 and lodged him in the Pollachi sub-jail.

Meanwhile, Kaliammal, who was receiving treatment for burns, returned home 15 days after the treatment but she died suddenly the day before yesterday. Kottur police on receiving information sent her body to Pollachi Government Hospital for autopsy. A murder case will be registered against Velusamy if it is found that Kaliammal died due to burns.
