Coimbatore: Excess water discharged from Aliyar Dam through 9 sluices
Coimbatore: Excess water was discharged from Aliyar Dam today through 9 sluices. Due to the continuous rains in the last few days in the Western Ghats, the water level of the dam has increased due to the inflow of water from the catchment areas including the Upper Aliyar and Kadamparai.
As a result, the water level of the dam reached 118 feet on the 20th and 3,625 cubic feet of excess water was discharged from the dam through 7 sluices.

As of yesterday morning, the water level of the 120-foot-high Aliyar Dam was 119.55 feet. The dam had an inflow of 1,408 cubic feet per second and 800 cubic feet of water was released per second, but as the water level of the dam suddenly rose at 2 pm and reached 119.70 feet, 2,000 cubic feet per second of excess water was released through 9 sluices for safety reasons. Public Works Department officials said, depending on the water level of the dam, the excess water release will be managed.
