Coimbatore: Tamil Nadu on Thursday logged 5,692 fresh cases of COVID-19 and 66 related fatalities, taking the total number of infections to 5,63,691 and the State toll to 9,076, according to the State Health Department media bulletin.

The day also saw 5,470 patients getting discharged after recovery from various hospitals across the State.
As of September 24, cumulatively 5,63,691 COVID-19 positive cases have been confirmed in the state, which include 9,076 deaths and 5,08,210 discharges, the Health Department said in its bulletin.
Of the new cases reported today, State Capital Chennai reported 1,089. The metro was back to 1,000 plus cases after a lot of days.
Among the districts where a higher number of cases were reported, Coimbatore accounted for 642, Salem 311, Chengalpattu 299, Thiruvallur 265 and Cuddalore 250.
Tirupur logged a single-day spike of 188cases and the Nilgiris 97.
According to the bulletin, the number of active cases stood at 46,405.
A total of 68,15,644 samples have been tested till date of which a record 90,607 were tested over the last 24 hours.
