Under the circumstances, as the Azhiyar Dam has reached its full capacity, farmers have demanded that Aliyar should provide the full 2880 million cubic feet of water for 90 days this time for new ayacut irrigation.
Farmers have submitted a petition in this regard to the Public Works Department and the Coimbatore District Collector, which reads, "In the year 2,000, canals were irrigated on a rotational basis, WRO High Level Committee recommended 85 Mcft of water per day for the Thirumoorthi Palaar new ayacut and 1450 Mcft of water for 17 days per rotation.
Despite this, they have been issuing GO's increasing the number of days per rotation to 21 and distributing 1900 Mcft to the PAP project in whole. This has caused a lot of confusion due to the water scarcity.
To compensate for this shortfall, the amount of water provided to us for the past few years has been reduced. This has severely impacted sharing of water between TN and Kerala and old ayacut irrigation. both state sharing and old strategic irrigation.In this regard, the truth should be known and appropriate action be taken."
