Coimbatore: 22,000 applications for enrollment and correction submitted in Coimbatore for voters list
Coimbatore: Officials said 22,000 people have applied online to add their names to the voter list and correct the errors in Coimbatore.
District election department officials said, "The Election Commission of India has introduced uniform voter ID cards across the country. Accordingly, the new voter card will have 3 English letters and 7 digits. This way, the voter ID card number will not change even if the voter moves from one constituency to another or from district to district. In such a situation, it is sufficient for him to change only the address of his newly relocated home.
In Coimbatore district, identity cards with new serial numbers are being issued to replace voter ID cards with old serial numbers. No new voter recruitment camp was held in the district due to coronavirus infection. Around 600 people over 18 years have applied online to add their names in the electoral roll and there have been applications online for editing typos and change of address.
Since last March, 22,000 people have applied for addition and correction of their names to the voter list. The online applications are scrutinised swiftly for approval."
