Coimbatore: S.Nagarajan,Special Judge for CBI cases here on Wednesday, convicted K.Sajeesh, the then Senior Manager, Canara Bank, Kavundampalayam Branch, Coimbatore and two others in a bank fraud case filed by CBI.
The Anti-Corruption Branch of CBI, Chennai investigated and filed chargesheet in Crime No RC 11/2008 against A-1, K.Sajeesh, the then Senior Manager, Canara Bank, Kavunthapalayam Branch, Coimbatore, A-2 Rakav Balaji and A3 Jaishankar, both private persons, on the allegation that K Sajeesh had sanctioned 26 housing loans amounting to Rs.123.44 lakhs to various borrowers working in BSNL/Primary Health Centre etc in violation of bank norms.
The said loans have been disbursed without conducting pre/post sanction inspections and on the strength of forged and fabricated salary certificates produced/arranged by A-2 Rakav Balaji and A-3 Jayashankar and thereby caused a loss of Rs.1.31 crores to the Bank.
On completion of trial, the accused person A-1 K.Sajeesh was convicted and sentenced to undergo rigorous imprisonment for 2 years and A2 Rakav Balaji and A3 Jaishankar were convicted and sentenced to undergo imprisonment for 3 years each. A total fine of Rs 8 lakhs was also imposed, on them.
