Tirupur: BJP national secretary H Raja, who was attending a party function at Thirumuruganpoondi in Tirupur, told reporters after the event that the present central government would play a key role in safeguarding the welfare of farmers.
He said the Congress, which has been vocal in its opposition to the Agriculture Bills, needs to think about what it has done for farmers during the DMK coalition rule.
He added that farmers in India should not be deceived by the talk of fake farmers in Congress and DMK and questioned how former Union Minister Chidambaram would comment on the bill when he knows nothing about agriculture. When asked about Kadir Anand's statement in Parliament today that he had been threatened by intelligence officials, he said that whoever is at fault should be punished and that by-elections would be held in two parliamentary constituencies in Tamil Nadu in the next 70 days in the context of the launch of the 2G spectrum inquiry.
BJP vice president Annamalai was also present on the occasion.
