Tirupur: Relatives of a person, who died after being allegedly taken for an investigation by the Tirupur police, besieged the District Collector's car, on Wednesday morning.
Manikandan, a resident of Chettipalayam, Tirupur, was allegedly taken by the Nallur Police in Tirpur district, at around 7 AM this morning for interrogation in connection with the murder of a woman. Soon after, his family was informed that Manikandan passed away.
Later, Manikandan's body was sent to Tirupur Government Hospital for autopsy but his relatives refused to receive the body and demanded a probe as he died allegedly during interrogation. According to police reports, Manikandan suffered a seizure and fainted when he was taken away for questioning and was pronounced dead by doctors at the hospital.
Manikandan's relatives who suspect foulplay, besieged the vehicle of Tirupur District Collector, K Vijayakarthikeyan who had come to inspect the government hospital and demanded action against the police.
The District Collector told the reporters that a case has been registered and investigation is underway and RDO enquiry has been ordered. He added further action would be initiated after autopsy results.
