Tirupur: Alleged oupply cut at Tirupur GH due to power outage related to construction work: 2 dead

Tirupur: Due to a power outage related to ongoing construction work, Tirupur Government Hospital allegedly reported 2 deaths due to lack of oxygen delivery to patients admitted with coronavirus symptoms . The District Collector assured that action will be taken against those for negligence during the construction work.

At the Tirupur Government Hospital, asymptomatic and symptomatic coronavirus patients are treated at separate wards. The power supply to one of the wards was cut off due to a power outage this morning during the construction work of the medical college being built on the premises of the Tirupur Government Hospital.

Relatives of the patients complained that two people died in a row due to a malfunction in the oxygen supply. Yashoda (67) and Gauravan (65), who had undergone a coronavirus examination were admitted with symptoms. They are alleged to have died due to lack of oxygen.

The director of the medical college, Valli, said that there was a power outage during the construction but that there was no obstruction in the flow of oxygen and that the two patients who died were already in critical condition.

District Collector Vijayakarthikeyan who inspected the spot said that the power lines were cut during the construction work. He also added that after enquiring both medical and health department officials the power outage was due to a disturbance during construction but doctors made sure there was no shortage of oxygen delivery.

He further added that a full investigation has been ordered into the incident in which two persons were killed and action will be taken. Notices have been sent to the contractor and engineers for their negligence. He also said that the health department will make alternate arrangements to treat patients until the constriction work is over.
