Police received information that some people were smuggling about 800 kg of ration rice to Kerala, which was slotted for distribution to the public at a fair price shop in the Pollachi Nandanar Colony area.
When the Mahalingapuram police engaged in a vehicle inspection at the Pollachi New Project Road junction and searched the car which was suspicious, investigations revealed that about 800 kg of rice was smuggled.
The Mahalingapuram police arrested Vijayan and Sadiq from Mappillai Goundan Pudur area, who tried to escape. Investigation is on.
A car and about 800 kg of ration rice have been confiscated.
