Coimbatore: Rs. 30 lakh in cash and 10 sovereigns of gold were stolen by breaking open a locked house. Duraisamy (70) is a retired private sector employee who lives with his wife Masilamani at the Chitra Nagar area of Saravanampatti, Coimbatore.

The couple left out of town for a wedding at their relative's house on September 4.
When they returned home after the function, they were shocked to find the door of their house broken open. and Rs. 30 lakh and 10 sovereigns of jewelry had been stolen from the wardrobe.
Police were investigating based on the complaint by Duraisamy. It was revealed that he had 30 lakhs of cashfrom selling a farm.
Fingerprint experts dusted the place for prints. Police were investigating whether any known former culprits were involved in the robbery.
Meanwhile, a special team comprising Deputy Commissioner E. S. Uma, Assistant Commissioner Rajkumar, Saravanampatti Station Inspector S. Sangeetha, Sub Inspector Elangeswaran, Special Sub Inspector P. Suresh, Head Constables Duraikannan and Balaprakash.
The team geared up investigations and, on September 20, nabbed Ganeshkumar (34), S/O Maaranna Gounder, Kodadasanur, Karamadai and Prasath Raja, S/O Bhaskaran, Palayampatti, Aruppukottai, the duo that was involved in the theft at Chitra Nagar.
Cash amounting to 16,57,000 and around 5-1/2 sovereigns of gold were retrieved from them. Ganeshkumar and Prasath Raja have been arrested and imprisoned.
The Commissioner of Police greatly appreciated the special team that functioned efficiently and cracked the case.
