Kozhikamuthi Elephant Camp near Topslip has 28 elephants that are being reared by the Forest Department. Elephants such as Kaleem, Kapil Dev and Mariappan are used as kumki's.
One of the elephants here, Kalpana, a 41-year-old female at the camp, died today after being treated for two months by forest department veterinarians, Sukumar and Manohar. Captured in 2004 near Sethumadai, Kalpana was trained for carrying tourists on safaris.

On hearing the news of the demise of Kalpana, Topslip Forest Ranger Sakthivel, Forest Department personnel and mahouts paid floral tributes to its body.
Anamalai Tiger Reserve Deputy Director informed that an autopsy will be done and the elephant will be buried at the Topslip camp.
Following the demise of Kalpana, the number of elephants at Kozhikamuthi Camp has come down to 28.
