Flood Alert issued: Aliyar Dam near Pollachi reaches 118 feet
Coimbatore: Due to continuous rains in the last few days in the Western Ghats next to Pollachi, water level at the Aliyar Dam kept increasing. The level of the 120-foot-high dam was 114.50 feet as of yesterday morning, and 527 cubic feet per second was discharged from the dam.

Due to heavy rains last night in the catchment areas of the dam, including Kadamparai and Upper Aliyar, water inflowto the dam increased to 5000 cubic feet per second.As a result, the level at the dam rose sharply and reached 118 feet on Sunday evening.Therefore, for safety reasons, 3,625 cubic feet per second of excess water is discharged through 7 of the 11 shutters in the dam.
Due to this, a flood warning has been issued to villages situated on riverbanks including Aliyar, Anamalai, Athupollachi and Ambarambalayam.Public Works Department officials said the excess water would be discharged depending on the inflow of water to the dam.
